Fuer alle die George R. R. Martin's Fantasy Serie "The Song of Ice and Fire" - auf deutsch "Das Lied von Eis und Feuer" lieben und sehnsuechtig auf den naechsten Band warten, gibt es hier ein ausgezeichnetes Interview mit George, in dem er ein paar Infos ueber sein langerwartetes fuenftes Buch "A Dance with Dragons" gibt und auch den aktuellen Stand ueber die Verfilmung seiner monumentalen Fantasy-Serie gibt.

Liest sonst noch jemand diese Serie? Ich liebe sie. Sie ist eine der besten Serien die ich kenne. Super spannend und absolut unberechenbar. Da gibt es kein gut oder boese, da geht es jedem nur ums nackte ueberleben.

Ich bin mal gespannt, wann die Serie auf den Schirm kommt. Wenn HBO diese Serie so gut hinbekommt wie ROM, dann wird das ein Fest . Jedes Buch wird eine Serie von Folgen.

Das neueste Buch in der genialen Reihe naehert sich seiner Veroeffentlichung. ENDLICH!!! Es scheint, dass es im Juni fertig sein koennte, was eine Veroeffentlichung im Herbst wahrscheinlich machen laesst. Besonders die komplexen BRAN Kapitel haben George sehr zugesetzt. Eininge entscheidende Kapitel sind nun jedoch fertig und das Buch hat auch schon ein Cover.

Noch 2 Buecher nach diesem naechsten. Es wird 7 Buecher geben und dieses ist das fuenfte. Lesungen von Audible ist fuer mich auch TABU!! Es gibt uebrigens ein paar Fortschritte bei der Verfilmung. Nachdem sich HBO ja schon vor ca. 2 Jahren die Rechte gesichert hat, ist das ueberarbeitete Drehbuch nun bei den Verantwortlichen von HBO auf grosse Begeisterung gestossen. Nachdem viele Blockbuster Serien ausgelaufen sind brauch HBO dringend guten, langlaufenden Nachschub. Und da kann diese Serie viel Futter bringen, nachdem ROM sehr erfolgreich war und auch die Tudors auf Showtime (Konkurrenz) sehr erfolgreich sind. Jedes Buch soll eine ganze Staffel werden und ich kann das kaum erwarten. George Martin wird als beratender Produzent teilweise mit dabei sein.

Winter is coming to HBO ....

Es gibt geniale Nachrichten. HBO hat nun das Geld fuer die Pilotfolge von A Song of Ice and Fire berietgestellt. Hier nochmal die Geschichte:

(1) Vor ca. 2 Jahren hatte HBO sich die Option fuer die Filmrechte gesichert.
(2) Vor ca. 6 Monaten hat HBO die Option nicht auslaufen lassen und auch nicht verlaengert, sondern sie ausgefuehrt, was in Kuerze heisst, dass sie die Filmrechte nun haben

Und diese Woche wurde nun bekannt, dass HBO das Geld fuer die Pilotfolge zur Verfuegung gestellt hat. Ob die Serie dann kommt, haengt von der Qualitaet der Folge ab. Die Entscheidung wird also gemacht, nachdem die HBO Entscheidungsfaeller die Folge gesehen haben und nicht, nachdem sie im Fernsehen laeuft.

Die Produzenten und Script-Schreiber sind David Benioff und Dan Weiss. Vom Stil und Machart wird die Serie sehr stark an die geniale HBO Serie ROME angelegt sein.

Partner for the Dance

Hiya, kids, hiya, hiya, hiya.

I have some good news for all of you who have been waiting for A DANCE WITH DRAGONS.

It's no secret that I've struggled with this one, that the writing has been going slowly, that I've missed several deadlines. Meanwhile, I've delivered several Wild Cards books (ably assisted by Melinda M. Snodgrass) and co-edited a couple of major original anthologies with Gardner Dozois. And then there was HUNTER'S RUN, the three-way novel that I did with Dozois and Daniel Abraham. None of those were solo projects, of course. I had help with every one, a partner.

I have finally come to the conclusion that I need a partner for the DANCE as well, a collaborator to help me finish the remaining books in A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE.

Once I reached that realization, there could be only one possible choice -- my oldest friend in this field, winner of the Nebula and the World Fantasy Award, multiple Hugo loser, the brilliant, irascible, and ever-stylish Howard Waldrop.

H'ard and I have worked together before, of course. He was part of my Wild Cards series since the beginning, writing the very first story for the very first book, "Thirty Minutes Over Broadway" (JETBOY LIVES!), and he intends to write the last Wild Cards story too, once we decide to wrap up the series. But our collaborative efforts go back decades beyond that. Howard and I first began to correspond in 1963, when we were both in high school and John F. Kennedy was in the White House, but we did not actually meet until 1972, at a convention in Kansas City, Missouri. We took an immediate liking to each other, and sat down at once to write the SF adventure classic that would ultimately be known as "Men of Greywater Station." I came up with the universe, the planet Greywater, the sentient fungus, and characters named Delvecchio and Granowicz. H'ard contributed the military expertise (he was just out of the army), and characters named Otis and Eldon. (Neither of us remembered to put girls in the story, unfortunately, which was kind of odd when you think on it, since we started writing it in a Playboy Club).

Now, some of you familiar with the Waldrop oevre may object, and argue that H'ard doesn't write epic fantasy. Tush, tush. You know nothing! Truth be told, Howard was writing epic fantasy long before I was. When the two of us were still in high school, contributing text stories to the dittoed comic fanzines of the day, I was doing superhero stories in prose, but Howard was writing great stuff about musketeers, gladiators, and a whole SERIES of stories about a Sword & Sorcery hero known only as the Wanderer, whose exploits were recorded in the sacred tomes known as the Chronicles of Chim-Wazle (okay, okay, I stole that name for my Jack Vance story, don't tell Howard). He's no stranger to swords, not at all.

Howard is as excited as a one-legged man at an ass-kicking contest at the prospect of us working together again, and has promised to jump right into A DANCE WITH DRAGONS and wrap it all up in a month or two, knocking out the remaining chapters with the same speed with which he's knocked out his own novels, THE MOON WORLD and I, JOHN MANDEVILLE. He has plans for some exciting new characters as well. Wait till you guys meet the mysterious knight with the three dodo birds on the shield and his three goofy serving men!! It's even possible that the Wanderer himself will make a comeback, which I know would thrill all of you who were reading about him in BATWING and CORTANA back in 1965.

Meanwhile, I'll be in the hot tube with some babes in bikinis, sipping some Irish Mist and watching my TIVO replay of the Giants victory over the Patriots in the last Super Bowl but one. Hey, maybe I should tell Howard to work in a knight called Ser Tyree...

Hier sind uebrigens die Titel der drei noch ausstehenden Buecher. Es sollten erst nur 6 Buecher werden, aber da A Feast for Crows zu gross wurde, wurde es in zwei Buecher geteilt und A Dance with Dragons ist der zweite Teil. Danach kommen noch 2 Buecher.

Geniale Nachrichten vom Casting. Sean Bean ist mit dabei. Sobald die Serie kommt, hole ich mir HBO in meine Schuessel. Hier die Worte direkt von Martin:

Well, Reuters has the story out already, so there's no longer any reason for me to keep mum. Yes, the rumors you've been seeing all over the web the last few days are true. Another huge piece has fallen into place for the HBO pilot of A GAME OF THRONES -- we have signed Sean Bean to play the part of Lord Eddard Stark.

For the movie fans out there, Sean Bean needs no introduction. I mean, what the hell, he was Boromir and he was Sharpe, he was terrific in both roles, and in a hundred other parts besides. I can't imagine a better Ned. The deal took some doing, so my fingers have been crossed for a month now (and boy, that made it hard to type), but now it's done, and I'm thrilled.

That's only part of the exciting news, however. Casting has been proceeding apace these past six weeks or so -- in New York and LA, London and Dublin, most recently in Australia. David and Dan and director Tom McCarthy have been looking all over the world for the right actors, and now they've filled some key roles as well.

For King Robert I Baratheon, we've got Mark Addy, a veteran British actor of stage and screen that many of you may remember from his fine turn in A KNIGHT'S TALE.

The roles of Joffrey Baratheon, the crown prince, and Viserys Targaryen, the beggar king, have also been filled... by Jack Gleeson and Harry Lloyd, respectively. Sorry, I haven't been able to find pictures of them on the internet yet, though I'm sure they are out there somewhere. I've seen readings by both Gleeson and Lloyd, and both should be terrific.

And last, but certainly not least, the role of the bastard Jon Snow will be played by a young actor named Kit Harington. You probably haven't heard of him yet... but you will, we're confident. David and Dan can't say enough about his talent and intensity.

Of course, there's a lot more roles still to fill, including some very crucial ones like the Lannister twins, the Stark children, and Daenerys Targaryen, so the search will continue for awhile. But we've begun, and so far I couldn't be happier. October is right around the corner.
